Alfonso X el Sabio University (UAX) is a private institution located in the Community of Madrid and forms part of the group of universities in the Madrid area. Like other universities such as Camilo José Cela, its name pays tribute to a prominent figure in Spanish history, in this case King Alfonso X, known for his role in the Reconquista and his leadership in the Kingdom of Castile.
UAX offers undergraduate and graduate studies in various fields of knowledge, such as Social and Legal Sciences, Engineering, and Arts. However, it is particularly notable for its focus on Health Sciences, which attracts many students who wish to specialize in this field. The university has health centers where students can put their knowledge into practice, which is one of its main attractions.
When looking for accommodation, it is important to know that UAX has two campuses. The main one, located in Villanueva de la Cañada (northwest of Madrid), is home to most of the undergraduate programs.
The fastest way to get there is by car (30-40 minutes from the city center), although you can also take bus lines 581 (from Príncipe Pío) and 627 (from Moncloa). Therefore, it is recommended to live near these stops to make getting around easier.
On the other hand, master's and postgraduate studies are taught at the Madrid-Chamartín campus. In this case, it is best to live in the Chamartín district itself or in areas well connected by metro line 9, which also runs through the Salamanca and Retiro districts.
Other metro lines such as 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 allow you to transfer to line 9, facilitating access to the Pío XII station, close to the campus. However, other routes with multiple transfers can be more inconvenient or time-consuming.
