The Cabañal-Cañamelar and Malvarrosa neighborhoods, located in the maritime area of Valencia, are two of the city’s most unique and traditionally rich areas. Originally, Cabañal and Cañamelar were independent fishing villages that became part of Valencia at the end of the 19th century. Cabañal, with its distinctive colorful houses and modernist architecture, was home to fishermen for centuries who built their homes facing the sea, creating a unique urban layout, famous for its narrow streets and tiled façades. One of the most interesting facts about the area is that, during the Peninsular War, Napoleon attempted to burn down the neighborhood, but failed. Since then, a local festival called the "cremà" is held to commemorate this event.

‍

On the other hand, Malvarrosa, known for its long beach with fine sand, became a leisure destination in the 19th century when gardener Félix Robillard created the first malvarrosa (mallow) gardens, giving the neighborhood its name. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the Malvarrosa Beach also attracted intellectuals like Vicente Blasco Ibáñez, who lived and wrote in a house by the sea. Both neighborhoods, with their deep connection to the sea and local culture, are today spots where tradition, leisure and modern life come together.
