The neighbourhood of Salamanca is one of the most exclusive areas of Madrid. Located north of Malasaña and Chamberí, its elegant vibe and beautiful buildings make it one of the most visited neighbourhoods in the city. Navigating such a large and busy neighbourhood can seem a little daunting but don’t fret! We have compiled a list of some of the greatest things to do in Salamanca.

‍

Places of interest in Salamanca

‍

National Archaeological Museum

‍

This is the main cultural site of Salamanca. It displays artefacts from Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece and from the Roman Empire as well as some great sculptures from the Iberian Peninsula, for example The Sculpture of the Lady of Elche.

‍

Plaza de Toros

‍

In the east of the district, you will find an enormous, ancient building. The Plaza de Toros Monumental de las Ventas is the most prestigious bull ring in the world. This building has a rich history and is a hub of Spanish tradition. Bull fights are still regularly held here during the season. If the thought of watching a bull fight does not appeal to you, don’t worry! It is also home to the Museo Torino, which will tell you all about the history of bull fighting.

‍

‍

Palacio de Linares

‍

This stunning palace is usually overlooked since it is opposite the Palacio de Cibeles. However, it is definitely worth a visit! Less busy than Cibeles, you will find smaller queues here. The building itself was built in 1873 and has an impressive façade whilst the interior is equally impressive due to its use of Carrara marble. It is also home to the famous Casa de America, where lots of exhibitions and concerts are held. You can take a tour of the inside which usually lasts around an hour and costs 8€ for general admission.

‍

Try some of the best food in Madrid

‍

This neighbourhood is no stranger to the finer things and that is clearly represented in the multitude of amazing restaurants and cafés that it has. Any street you walk down you are bound to find some great places to eat or just have a refreshing drink, but here are some of our favourites:

‍

Shalakabula

‍

This little restaurant has become one of the most popular places in the whole of Salamanca due to its buzzing atmosphere and unique food. This restaurant creates traditional Spanish food but with an Asian twist. Staying true to tradition, this restaurant offers small plates ranging from croquettes to Bao buns. It is really one of the most unique restaurants in the city.

‍

Tepic

‍

This Mexican restaurant is relatively new to the scene, but its amazing food and cheap drinks have drawn people in right from the start. Its tacos are to die for, especially their speciality: The Acapulco Tropical. It has a modern interior but still keeps its cosy atmosphere and with such great prices, you would be a fool to miss it!

‍

Platea Madrid

‍

Formerly a 1950s theatre, it has been converted into a unique gastronomic site. The excitement does not stop in this great place. This is because it is home to a plethora of different restaurants and great cocktail bars. You know it’s a fancy place when there’s a few Michelin stars here. It offers a great range of food, from traditional Spanish to Japanese – it has it all! Also, be sure not to miss this place at night since it converts into a club with performers, DJs and more. An absolute must in Salamanca!

‍

Enjoy some of Salamanca’s great nightlife

‍

Salamanca is a thriving and vibrant area and so, in classic Spanish style, things start to heat up in the early afternoon. In Salamanca there are a variety of places to enjoy yourself, be it just a refreshing afternoon drink or dancing the night away – Salamanca has it all. Here are some of our suggestions of where to enjoy your night to the fullest:

‍

Huerta de Carabaña

‍

Mostly known for being a restaurant, this place should not be overlooked for a great drink. It prides itself on having original botanical cocktails. We recommend stopping by here to enjoy its great atmosphere and fantastic drinks. Its food is also delicious and healthy if you are feeling a bit peckish.

‍

DRY Martini Bar

‍

If you want to experience the art of cocktails, then this is the place for you. During the day it has a relaxed vibe. It serves great drinks and snacks but at night it turns into one of the chicest, swankiest places in town and draws in some of the most exclusive clientele. Although it may not be the cheapest place in Madrid, you definitely get what you pay for.

‍

‍

Salamanca is one of the most buzzing and exciting areas of Madrid, with so many great things to do. We hope this guide has been somewhat helpful and you will not be able to navigate this barrio with ease.
