Currently many people practice daily priority sports such as football or basketball. But the truth is that there are also many people who are fans of alternative sports.

‍

In this blog we are going to show you what some of the alternative sports are and where you can practice in Madrid.

‍

Ice Skating Madrid

‍

Skate

‍

Skateboarding is a sport that is usually practiced outdoors. But when it is not possible to do it due to weather conditions, there are other options for lovers of this sport to continue practicing it.

‍

In Madrid you have several very good skate centers available. One of the most important centers in Madrid is LA NAVE. It is a fully oriented center for this sport. It will take a long time to travel all the circuits. Only the first floor has more than 1100 square meters. This center also has a very affordable price: € 8.

‍

A second center is the Hurricane Skate House. This indoor skatepark has three different rooms for skateboarding, two ramps with different radios and a patio with mobile modules. It also has an outdoor area for days when you can practice. The price of this center is € 6 all day.

‍

There are more centers in Madrid for this specific alternative sport, such as Project Skatepark, Inpark indoor Skate School or Welcome Skatepark.

‍

Check which of these Skateparks is closest to your student accommodation and live experiences with your friends in these centers.

‍

Ice skating

‍

It is an alternative sport that many people choose to practice only at Christmas. But there is the possibility of continuing to practice it during the rest of the year.

‍

In Madrid during the high stage in this type of sports, it enables several centers where you can practice. They are usually somewhat small centers, since there are few people who come to practice them.

‍

One of the tracks in Madrid is the Ice Rink in Puente de Vallecas. It is an elongated ice rink, covered with a tent to avoid the wind and thus be able to skate in the best possible way.

‍

Another track in Madrid is the Puente Rey Ice Rink. It is one of the best tracks and the second largest in Madrid to perform this sport. It is covered with a tent also to avoid the wind.

‍

All the previous tracks are temporary ice rink, which when it is not high season in this type of sports, are removed until the following season. In Madrid there is only 1 track that is permanent during the year. In addition many people go every weekend to practice this alternative sport.

‍

This track is in the Palacio de Hielo, in the center of Madrid. It also has the advantage that it is surely close to your student apartment. And if you consider practicing ice skating and you will come to Madrid to study, keep this in mind when you are going to rent your student room in Madrid.

‍

Alternative Sports

‍

Badminton

‍

It is a sport that only a few people practiced in Spain 10 years ago. But since the success that Carolina Marín has had in this sport, being a social reference, the sport has not stopped growing in Spain.

‍

Madrid has 25 badminton clubs. In the neighborhoods of Madrid where there are more Vallecas and Villaverde. Although it is the neighborhoods that have more clubs (3 and 2). There are clubs all over Madrid. So when looking for your student room should not be one of your biggest concerns. Since there are clubs in Chamartín, Hortaleza, Arganzuela, Leganés, etc.

‍

If you want to attend a professional club, the only one there is outside Madrid. The club is called Torrejón-Paracuellos. It is located more than 30 minutes from the center of Madrid.

‍

Alternative Sports

‍

Urban Trail Running

‍

It’s about adapting trail running to the biggest cities. This type of sport is practiced by people who love running through difficult places, but do not have time to travel to the mountains of Madrid to practice it.

‍

In addition to this sport not only resistance is necessary, but it is necessary to adopt a technique to avoid injuries. Keep in mind that they pass through places where the floor is very irregular.

‍

Urban adaptation maintains the essence that much effort is needed to do it and passes through places where it will be difficult to travel.

‍

In Madrid there are two main places where you can practice this sport. The first are the stairs of the Cuatro Caminos station. The stairs are located down towards the subway line 6. It is a slope of 45 meters divided into 5 flights of stairs.

‍

The other place to practice it is in the 50 steps of Guzmán el Bueno. It is also a subway station. Up and down stairs is what most closely resembles trail running within a city.

‍

If you want to practice this alternative sport, keep in mind when looking for a room rental so that this activity can be done daily. It is also two areas very well connected with all of Madrid.

‍

Trail Running Madrid

‍

Colla Castellera

‍

It is a sport that emerged in Catalonia, which tries to form a tower made of people through effort and solidarity. That tower is usually about 6 floors, but when the technique is improved it can be up to 9 or 10 floors.

‍

It is one of the alternative sports that has expanded even outside of Spain. There are places like Australia, China, Chile or Argentina where this sport is practiced.

‍

In Madrid a place to practice it was inaugurated in 2017. Both Wednesday and Friday train. There began to be few participants and little by little several people from Madrid have been joining the club.

‍

Madrid

‍

To sum up, in Madrid you can not only practice sports that everyone practices, such as football or basketball. There is also room for other alternative sports such as ice skating or skateboarding. That’s why from Lodgerin we encourage you to participate in any of these sports.
